形态特征：一年或越年生草本，高0.5-1米，根茎淡黄色，秆丛生。叶片披针状椭圆形状，叶面无毛，叶背无毛或被稀疏的长柔毛，顶端尾尖，叶舌膜质，2裂。穗状花序椭圆形，被长圆形鳞片状鞘；苞片覆瓦状排列，椭圆形，红绿色，具紫脉，花萼淡黄色，唇瓣卵形，3裂，中部黄色，边缘白色。果倒卵形，熟时裂成3瓣，果皮里面鲜红色。种子黑色，被白色假种皮。花期8-10月。
