2023年6月21日，国际学术期刊《自然》在线发表中国天眼FAST取得的一项重要成果。该团队利用中国天眼FAST发现了一个名为PSR J1953+1844（M71E）的双星，其轨道周期仅为53分钟，是目前发现轨道周期最短的脉冲星双星系统。该发现填补了蜘蛛类脉冲星系统演化模型中缺失的一环。

黑寡妇脉冲星是一类特殊的毫秒脉冲星，位于双星系统中，其主星辐射束直接扫过伴星，导致伴星逐渐被蒸发，因此而得名。黑寡妇脉冲星的射电辐射性质对双星的形成和演化，电磁波在强磁场等离子体中的传播性质等方面研究有重要意义。
